Agrotis segetum, sometimes known as the turnip moth, is a moth of the family Noctuidae. The species was first described by Michael Denis and Ignaz Schiffermüller in 1775. [1] It is a common European species and it is found in Africa and across Eurasia except for the northernmost parts.

Common name: Turnip moth. Taxonomic placing: Insecta, Holometabola, Lepidioptera, Noctuidae. Geographical distribution: Europe, Africa and Asia, CABI Pest map #490 (1987). Host plants: Many garden and fruit trees crops, as well as weeds. Agrotis segetum occurs in open places and prefers only partly vegetated, warm and more dry sites such as fields, embankments, patches in gardens, sand pits or gappy grasslands. In La Palma I observed larvae in the dry southwest of the island in gappy stocks of annual plant species.
